Six times a year, we feature local artists and their work as part of First Friday Gallery Night. We provide a nice selection of snacks and beverages as part of our receptions and, with the artist present, there is always an opportunity to engage in interesting conversation.
GALLERY NIGHT Friday, April 6th, 5-8 pm
"Drawing From Life" by Artist Tim Angell
These botanical drawings are done in a manner reminiscent of 17th century engravings. The linearity is intended to be both descriptive and decorative, but executed in a way that would perhaps combine a more modern perspective with a much older style. Despite the intricate and tedious nature of the images, there is an ever present effort to describe the subjects in simpler terms, in as few marks as might adequately render the forms. And though the pictures might be considered "realistic" when compared to a photographic image of the subject, these interpretations are clearly abstract, almost diagramatic in their explainations. The newer work departs from the traditional and sometimes required practice of isolating botanical subjects in a white field, and immerses them within a quieter space, to be considered in solitude.
This show will run until the beginning of May.
